Happy New Year (almost)!
It’s this time of year that I start thinking about my own resolutions for the new year. Granted, we all have resolutions we don’t keep (or for not very long), and regardless about how your feel about resolutions, it’s a great chance to be reflective!
I like for my students to be reflective learners as well! One of my favorite read alouds for jumping back into the swing of things is Squirrel’s New Year’s Resolution.
It’s a cute story about Squirrel, who can’t seem to find a resolution, and yet all her friends already have one! Plus, it EXPLAINS what a resolution is in kid-friendly language…way better than I could explain it!
You can grab Squirrel’s New Year’s Resolution HERE. Or by clicking the image below.
Anyway, we read the story, talk about resolutions, brainstorm some resolutions, and do lots of different activities with the book, which you can see here.
To go along with the book, I created a few activities that will have my students brainstorming, thinking about story elements, beginning, middle, and end, character development, and finishing up with writing about their own resolutions.
Nice post!! Thanks for sharing.
