Sticker Challenges

Sticker challenges are used as an individual student positive reinforcement system. Students earn stickers for good behavior, work completion, good manners, completed homework, raising hands, being kind, working quietly…the options are endless. It’s really all about what your students need reinforcement with.

What are sticker challenges?

Sticker challenges are used as an individual student positive reinforcement system.

Students earn stickers for good behavior, work completion, good manners, completed homework, raising hands, being kind, working quietly…the options are endless.

It’s really all about what your students need reinforcement with.

How does a sticker challenge work?

Each student gets a recording sheet, and then I pass out stickers.

Step 1: Give each student a “recording sheet” (I like to use a different theme for each month to keep it fresh and exciting).

Step 2: Pass out stickers

Yep. It’s really that easy.

Sticker challenges don’t just have to be about behavior though.

5 Ways to Use a Sticker Challenge:

  • Reinforce Positive Behavior – raising hands, working quietly, being kind, following directions, etc…
  • Homework
  • Reading – book completion and/or a certain percentage correct on an AR test
  • Fact Fluency Drills – a certain percentage correct and/or completion
  • Student-Specific Goals – behavior and/or academic

Other Ideas:

  • Teams of students can choose a sticker challenge recording board and can earn points as a team
  • Individual students can have a behavior contract in which they work toward filling their sticker challenge

I print mine 2/page and copied them onto colored paper. Nothing fancy, just a pop of color.

What happens once a student completes the sticker challenge?

In my class we have a reward “menu” so students know what they’re working toward, and have a choice in what they want to trade their completed sticker challenge for.

I initial their completed sticker challenge, and they get to take it home. Then, they get their next challenge.
